Amanda Harmon
Mildred H. Center Council Scholar

“Leadership could not be more important to students today,” says Amanda Harmon.  “In a world where integrity seems to lack and many people do whatever it takes to get ahead it is crucial that students learn the value of leadership.  With leadership comes responsibility, respect, character, and values.”

Harmon, a Council Scholar from Olive Branch, MS, is clearly reaping the benefits from the Leadership-Mentorship Program.  “The program has given me an amazing experience at Ole Miss.  I have learned from the amazing women who give so much to our program, and I plan to give back after I complete my tenure at Ole Miss.”

This busy student is taking the wisdom she has gained from the program and applying it all over campus.  Harmon is an Associated Student Body Senator, Ole Miss Ambassador, Orientation Leader, President of the School of Business Career Club, and a member of the Student Programming Board, Student Alumni Council, Student Rebel Ride Board, and Delta Gamma Sorority.  In addition, Harmon has earned several academic honors with membership in Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa, Order of Omega, Beta Gamma Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta, among others.  She was also a Top Ten Beauty in the 2005 Parade of Beauties.

No matter where Harmon is making her mark on campus, she credits the Women’s Council and her mentor, Donna Ruth Roberts, with making it all happen.  “The Women’s Council program has inspired and aided me more than any other program at Ole Miss,” she says.  “It is one of the greatest gifts I have ever received.  Without it, it may not have been possible for me to attend Ole Miss.  Because of the Women’s Council I have experienced nurturing mentorship, amazing learning, inspiration from leaders of all walks, and a greater passion for service.  I understand that to whom much is given much is expected, and I can't wait to continue giving back.”

With such enthusiasm and ambition, Ole Miss will surely be looking forward to the day when this Council Scholar fulfills that dream.
