Jennifer
Lawrence
Elizabeth Brevard Council Scholar
“Having
a mentor allows for a warm relationship and brilliant
insight in an environment that is not typically
conducive to such,” says Jennifer Lawrence. With all the
activities of this Council Scholar from Louisville,
Kentucky, finding the time for that relationship is
essential. Lawrence, a Southern Studies and political
science double major, is a member of the Sally McDonnell
Barksdale Honors College, involved with Ole Miss Diamond
Girls, Student Alumni Council, the CHEERS program, Mock
Trial, University Judicial Council, Ole Miss fencing
team, and serves as the Vice-President of Operations for
the Alpha Mu Chapter of Kappa Delta sorority. Even with
such a crowded schedule, making time to visit both her
Women’s Council and community mentors are of utmost
importance. “It is such an outlet; a place to make not
only connections, but friends,” Lawrence says.
After
graduation, Lawrence has her eye on law school and
eventually either corporate law or the judicial branch,
with aspirations of becoming a “young partner of a
reputable law firm” or a local and/or federal judge. She
knows that along her path it is the Ole Miss Women’s
Council and the Leadership-Mentorship Program that will
assist her exceptionally. “The program encourages me
academically to strive to do my best, not only for
myself but for those who are nurturing and supporting my
academic goals,” she says. “I appreciate the generosity
and wisdom of these influential women; they are all my
role models.”
Lawrence
is also looking forward to returning the inspiration and
support once she finishes school. “I am so thrilled at
the prospect of donating financially to the program, and
hopefully being as involved as to visit and speak to the
scholars about the importance of academic success and
necessity of forming quality relationships.”
She says
her favorite Women’s Council memories thus far include
the sophomore/junior trip to Chicago and annual
Christmas parties at the Lewis’ home…and cannot help but
site her desire to have a self-portrait like Ms. Patty
Lewis when she grows up.
