Kamesha Bailey
Gertrude Hudson Turner Council Scholar

“I love having someone to cheer me on in the game of life,” says Kamesha Bailey. “Having an older person’s perspective is always a plus for situations that life brings. Having a mentor is a wonderful opportunity to network with a variety of people.”

Bailey, a native of Coffeeville, MS, is an easy person to champion, according to her mentor. She is an English major with dreams of becoming a public relations specialist for an animal rights advocacy organization. In fact, it is in the world of animals that this Council Scholar finds her greatest passion for volunteerism. “I love animals,” she says. “I volunteer at the animal shelter, and I like to know that I’m helping them.”

With a goal of becoming an outspoken champion for animal rights, Bailey feels her training the Leadership-Mentorship Program will be a dynamic asset in making a difference in her career. She believes leadership is key. “Learning how to be an effective leader is very important for everyone. I think everyone has the potential to become a good leader and that everyone will inevitably have the chance to show it,” she says.

Bailey credits the Women’s Council with making her college experience a positive one. Her goal is to finish school without the burden of loans to carry into a career. Her Women’s Council Scholarship is making that dream, and many others, a reality.
