Mary Morgan Johnson
Lena Mitchell Marquette Council Scholar

When asked about the Ole Miss Women’s Council, Mary Morgan Johnson breaks into a smile. “Academically it has given me a chance of a lifetime that I am so thankful for,” she says. “I would not be attending Ole Miss if it had not been for this scholarship, and I would not have met the lifelong friends that I have.”

Johnson, a council scholar from Henderson, TN, is studying pharmacy. She says she knows her heart belongs in the medical field, and that her career path will focus on helping others in the South. Johnson’s commitment to service and to the people of her region motivates her to work hard in her challenging classes. She says she knows she is getting the best training available in her field and is grateful to the Women’s Council for the opportunity. “Without scholarships, I could not afford such a highly accredited school,” she says.

Johnson is also enjoying lessons learned outside of the classroom through the Women’s Council’s Leadership-Mentorship Program. “It has taught me a lot more about responsibility than I thought was ever possible to learn. It has also helped me grow individually with all the responsibility it carries,” she says. “I absolutely love everyone in the program. They are such wonderful examples [for others].”

When not with her fellow scholars or studying, Johnson enjoys activities both on and off campus. She is a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and enjoys spending time outdoors. After a summer internship in pharmacy, Johnson is looking forward to what lies ahead with the Women’s Council. She says she believes her involvement with the Women’s Council and its scholars is part of a bigger plan in her life. “God has a plan for you and a reason for you to be where you are and with the people you are with,” she says. For now, Johnson says she is grateful to have the amazing people of the Ole Miss Women’s Council playing a significant role in her life’s journey.
