Conerly
Donna Ruth Roberts Council Scholar
Priscilla Conerly is a scholar on a mission. “I plan to, in some capacity, impact this community and the world,” she says. This accomplished scholar from Jayess, MS, is preparing herself for this quest, with what she calls “crucial guidance” from the Ole Miss Women’s Council.
“My scholarship has provided me with a tremendous amount of opportunities to explore who I am and who I want to become. After receiving the scholarship and attending the University, I have participated in various activities that have helped pave a path to both personal and academic success,” she says.
Conerly is a managerial finance major, who has already been accepted to the University’s Law School for the Fall of 2006. Her career as an undergraduate has been a busy one. She is on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll and is a member of the Financier’s Club, the Ole Miss Gospel Choir, Lambda Sigma Honorary, Alpha Lambda Delta Honorary, and Who’s Who at Ole Miss. In her spare time, she expresses her passion for books by volunteering to read to children and share her experiences with them.
Conerly knows her future is bright, and she credits the Women’s Council’s Leadership-Mentorship Program with giving her the skills necessary to forge ahead with confidence. “Leadership skills have a crucial role in the process of acquiring a higher education,” she says. “These skills allow you to assert your ability to impact the community and potentially the world. My future is clear and defined because of the Leadership-Mentorship Program.”
She is also passionate about the role her Women’s Council scholarship and a mentor have played in her life as a college student. “I have reaped many benefits from the program, but the most important, I believe, is the knowledge that I am not alone on my journey and that there is a support system waiting to help guide me through some of the most difficult decisions that I will have to make. If not for the Ole Miss Women’s Council scholarship, I would probably have attended a different University. This scholarship has not only given me a path to follow but also a light to see that path. Without this scholarship, I would have been lost.”
